BECOME A SURF LIFESAVER
Becoming a volunteer surf lifesaver is a great way to have fun, enjoy the beach and develop new skills whilst volunteering your time to keep the community safe.
Living over 200 kilometres from the beach is not a barrier! Thanks to our long and strong partnership with Dee Why Surf Lifesaving Club, Orange Bush Nippers are able to become Junior Surf Lifesavers and participate in summer patrols on Dee Why beach.
Our Junior Lifesavers are trained in first aid, board and tube rescues and radio operations. Our older lifesavers (17+) are also able to undertake training in driving the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and become part of the boat rescue team.
The minimum requirement to be an active Surf Lifesaver is the Surf Rescue Certificate (minimum age 13 years) or the Bronze Medallion (minimum age 15 years).
All training is provided to Surf Rescue Certificate and Bronze Medallion candidates by Orange Bush Nippers and Dee Why Surf Lifesaving Club.
